Chi Haipeng, a member of the National Sustainable Development Laboratory Association and general manager of Beijing Dana Experimental Technology Co., Ltd., introduced that the sustainable development laboratory conforms to the concepts of green development and intelligent manufacturing, and has the characteristics of flexibility, intelligence, and intensification. Compared with traditional laboratories, it has the advantages of low cost, fast construction period, energy saving and emission reduction, simple maintenance, and easy upgrade and transformation. It is the development direction of future laboratories. The promotion and application of sustainable laboratory technology can significantly reduce laboratory construction and operation costs, save energy and material consumption, extend the life cycle of the laboratory, improve the comprehensive use efficiency of the laboratory, and better meet the diverse needs of users. Taking laboratory construction as an example, the application of sustainable development technologies such as BIM and prefabricated laboratories can reduce labor costs by 97%, material consumption by 5%, and construction site energy consumption and emissions by 80%-90%. Compared with traditional laboratories, prefabricated laboratories have an average cost reduction of 6%, daily maintenance costs by 40%, construction time savings of 93%, and no construction changes.

Phil Wirdzek introduced that the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) was co-founded by EPA (National Environmental Protection Agency) and DOE (U.S. Department of Energy) in 1997, and it was formerly known as the 21st Century Experiment. Laboratory (Labs21) has always been committed to improving laboratory energy efficiency, encouraging high-performance facility design, optimizing and improving new and old laboratories to protect the owner’s safety and equipment life cycle building efficiency. Phil Wirdzek congratulated the convening of this summit forum. It clearly stated the founding purpose and realistic tasks of the International Sustainable Development Laboratory Association, and expressed the willingness to join hands with the China Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Association to develop a bright future for the global sustainable development laboratory.

At present, less than 1% of laboratories nationwide apply sustainable development technology, and the demand for upgrading and transformation is very strong. In September 2016, the State Council issued the "Guiding Opinions on Vigorously Developing Prefabricated Buildings" and proposed to accelerate the promotion of prefabricated building technology. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Ministry of Science and Technology and other ministries and commissions also formulated a series of policies to support prefabricated buildings, green buildings, and smart buildings. The development of the laboratory provides a broad development space for the sustainable development laboratory. It is estimated that after the comprehensive promotion in the laboratory field, it can reduce the cost of about 15 billion yuan every year, and thus create an industrial scale of about 120 billion yuan.
